Description

Vidisic is a liquid eye gel that replaces natural tears in cases of tear secretion disorders. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca. The gel contains carbomer, a water-binding agent, which helps maintain the moisture of the conjunctiva and cornea.

Composition

The active substance of the drug is carbomer ( Carbomerum ).
1 g of gel contains 2 mg of carbomer.
Excipients: cetrimide, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, water for injections.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage for the treatment of dry eye depends on the individual patient's condition. Drops should be administered into the conjunctival sac 3 to 5 times daily, or more frequently as needed, and approximately 30 minutes before bedtime (otherwise, there is a risk of the eyelids sticking together). Consult an ophthalmologist when using Vidisic for the treatment of dry eye, which usually requires long-term or continuous treatment.

Action

The gel works by binding water to carbomer, creating a transparent protective layer on the eye's surface that moisturizes the cornea and conjunctiva. Carbomer is a high-molecular-weight compound with properties similar to natural tears, meaning it has high viscosity and a physiological pH.

Indications

Vidisic is used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome (also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca).

Contraindications

Do not use Vidisic in people who are allergic to the active substance or any of the excipients.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Vidisic can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): burning eyes, red eyes, eyelid eczema, foreign body sensation in the eye, giant papillary conjunctivitis, itchy eyes, sticky eyes, superficial punctate keratitis, tearing, blurred vision.

The above reactions, including those of allergic origin, may be caused by the preservative contained in the drug (cetrimide) or may be related to intolerance to one of the other ingredients. Cetrimide may also cause damage to the corneal epithelium.
Blurred vision after administration of Vidisic may be related to the high viscosity of the product.

Warnings and precautions

If dry eye symptoms persist or worsen, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
Vidisic is a sterile product until first opening and it is important to keep the packaging and the medicine itself clean.

Patients wearing contact lenses should remove them before using the medication. After applying the gel, lenses may be reinserted after at least 15 minutes.

Vidisic contains the preservative cetrimide, which, when used frequently or for long periods of time, may cause eye irritation (burning, redness, foreign body sensation) and may damage the corneal epithelium. If these side effects occur, discontinue use of Vidisic and consult your doctor or pharmacist, who will recommend a different preservative-free medication.

Storage:

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Store below 25°C.
Throw away any unused medicine 6 weeks after first opening the tube.

Use of other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.

Vidisic may prolong the contact time of other ophthalmic medications, so leave at least 5 minutes between applying subsequent eye drops, and in the case of ointments, at least 15 minutes. Vidisic should always be applied last.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Vidisic should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Driving and operating machinery

Vidisic has a moderate influence on the ability to drive and use machines. Immediately after administration, the medicine may cause blurred vision for a short period of time. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in other potentially hazardous activities until your vision clears.
