Faringesic 20 Sucking Tablets
Description
ACTION AND MECHANISM
Combination of ester-type local anesthetic and antiseptic. Benzocaine acts by blocking sensory receptors in mucous membranes locally. Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic with particular activity against Gram-positive bacteria; it also has a fungistatic effect against Candida.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
- In patients with periodontitis, chlorhexidine causes an increase in supragingival calculus.
PATIENT ADVICE
- Avoid use in children under 6 years of age. - The tablets should not be chewed or swallowed, as their action is local. - May permanently stain fillings if the surface or edges are rough. - Maintain good oral hygiene with a special anti-tartar toothpaste to reduce tartar buildup and staining caused by chlorhexidine.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- [ALLERGY TO ESTER-TYPE LOCAL ANESTHETICS] to PABA or parabens or paraphenylenediamine (a hair dye), or to chlorhexidine.
- Children under 6 years of age, due to their special sensitivity to the systemic toxicity of benzocaine, which may cause methemoglobinemia.
INDICATIONS
- Symptomatic relief of [ORAL INFECTION] and [PHARYNGITIS], accompanied by pain and without fever (throat irritation, [APHONIA], [HOARSENESS], [ORAL CANKER SORES]).
CHILDREN
Due to its benzocaine content, it should not be administered to children under 6 years of age. Children are more sensitive to the systemic toxicity of benzocaine, which can cause methemoglobinemia.
GUIDELINES FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION
Dissolve slowly in the mouth, without chewing or swallowing.
POSOLOGY
- Adults and children over 6 years: 1 tablet/2 h. Do not exceed 8 tablets/day.

The most characteristic adverse reactions are: - Occasionally: discoloration of oral surfaces (teeth, gums, tongue, fillings, etc.) that is visible within a week of treatment. Tongue discoloration disappears spontaneously. Tooth discoloration can be removed by oral hygiene. Filling discoloration may be permanent.
