Description
ACTION AND MECHANISM
A steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
PATIENT ADVICE
PATIENT ADVICE: - Dissolve slowly near the affected area without chewing or swallowing for 15-30 minutes. - The children's form comes as a tablet with a plastic clip to prevent the child from swallowing it. - Administer a maximum of 4 tablets per day (10 mg). - Do not administer for more than 4 days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- [CORTICOSTEROID ALLERGY].- [ORAL INFECTION]: oral ulcers accompanied by fever or general malaise, untreated infections of the oral mucosa, wounds caused by trauma and prostheses, gingival infections and eruptive lesions located outside the oral cavity.
INDICATIONS
- Symptomatic relief of [ORAL CANKER SORES].
GUIDELINES FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION
Allow the tablet to dissolve slowly in the mouth, as close as possible to the ulcerated area. In case of multiple lesions, it is advisable to suck on the tablet so that saliva distributes it to the ulcers. The tablet should remain in the mouth for 15-30 minutes. Aftasone for children comes in the form of a lozenge with a plastic clip to prevent the child from swallowing it and instead ensure that, by sucking on it slowly, the active ingredient reaches the mouth ulcers.
POSOLOGY
- Adults and children over 12 years, topical, oral solution: 2.5 mg (1 tablet)/6-8 hours, maximum 4 tablets/day. Children: 1.5 mg (1 tablet)/6-8 hours.
PRECAUTIONS
- It should not be used for more than 4 days.
PRECAUTIONS RELATING TO EXCIPIENTS
This medicine contains lactose. Patients with hereditary lactose or galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
The adverse effects of hydrocortisone are generally mild and transient. Adverse reactions are more frequent with high doses and prolonged treatments. The most characteristic adverse reactions are: - Exceptionally (<1%): with high doses and prolonged treatments, delayed wound healing.
OVERDOSE
In case of overdose, systemic effects of corticosteroids may occur. Treatment will be symptomatic. In case of accidental ingestion, since there is no specific antidote and serious effects are unlikely, treatment consists of dilution with liquids.
