Astaxanthin is a natural carotenoid found in some types of microalgae, crustaceans, red fish or mushrooms and has strong antioxidant properties. Unlike other types of antioxidants, astaxanthin is safer because it does not turn into a pro-oxidant in the body and thus cannot cause harmful oxidation.
