What is lactitol?
Lacitol is a sugar compound consisting of galactose and sorbitol, which is not digested by the digestive enzymes of the gastrointestinal tract. It is fermented by intestinal microflora into short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). Lactitol is minimally absorbed in the small intestine, so it reaches the large intestine, where it is broken down by colonic bacteria into short-chain fatty acids, including butyric acid.
The Colodrix package contains 14 sachets of powder that dissolves in water.
