Description
Bruxism: An underestimated disease
Recent studies reveal alarming facts: one in two people suffers from bruxism, the unconscious clenching and grinding of teeth. Many sufferers are aware that various ailments originate from bruxism. This form of teeth grinding is far more than just a nighttime sleep disturbance – it is a serious condition that requires treatment.
Signs and symptoms
How do you know if you are affected? Symptoms that occur after waking up, such as pain in the jaw joint, teeth, and muscles, are often the first warning signs. A grinding or crunching sound from the jaw can indicate that the teeth grinding has been going on for some time.
Did you know?
During nighttime teeth grinding, pressure up to ten times the normal chewing pressure is exerted – that's over 400 kg/cm²! The consequences are serious: Bruxism frequently leads to temporomandibular joint disorders and irreversible tooth wear. The range of possible symptoms is long and includes headaches, migraines, tinnitus, dizziness, and jaw problems. Furthermore, bruxism is the third most common cause of sleep disorders, which in turn can lead to impaired concentration and dangerous microsleep episodes.
Causes and treatment options
In over 95% of cases, bruxism is triggered by emotional stress. In today's hectic world, many people are constantly under stress, which promotes teeth grinding. There are no medications for this condition, which is caused by the subconscious. The most effective protection is wearing a custom-fitted night guard.
Introduction to DR.BRUX
W3 Solutions, in collaboration with dentists, dental technicians and universities, has developed a splint that meets the highest medical standards: DR.BRUX.
- Perfect adaptation to the individual tooth shape
- Adjusted layer thickness for optimal pressure distribution
- Smooth chewing surface to relieve pressure on the jaw joints and muscles.
- Adjustable at any time for lasting comfort
- 2-year warranty
Using DR.BRUX
Before DR.BRUX can be used, it must be individually adjusted. This adjustment can be carried out in just a few minutes thanks to simple instructions.
Heating the splint in hot water makes it malleable, allowing the teeth to press deeply into it when biting down (boil and bite method). The lower teeth press against the flexible, rigid occlusal liner, leaving no marks. This uniform contact surface reduces stress on the teeth and joints and extends the splint's lifespan. Acute symptoms such as muscle, tooth, and headaches usually subside quickly.
