Composition

The active substance is ketoconazole.
1 g of cream contains 20 mg of ketoconazole.

The other ingredients are: propylene glycol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, isopropyl myristate, sodium sulfite anhydrous (E 221), polysorbate 80, purified water.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Nizoral cream is intended for use on the skin of adults.
Skin candidiasis, jock itch, jock itch, athlete's hand and foot, pityriasis versicolor: usually apply Nizoral cream to the affected areas of the skin and the skin immediately adjacent to them once a day.
Seborrheic dermatitis: Depending on the severity of the infection, Nizoral cream is usually applied to the affected skin areas once or twice daily.

Treatment should be continued for several days after the infection symptoms have completely resolved. If there is no improvement after four weeks of treatment, consult your doctor, as the diagnosis needs to be verified. During treatment, basic hygiene practices should be followed to prevent re-infection.

Average treatment time:
Pityriasis versicolor from 2 to 3 weeks;
Yeast infections from 2 to 3 weeks;
Jock itch from 2 to 4 weeks;
Tinea corporis from 3 to 4 weeks;
Athlete's foot from 4 to 6 weeks;
Seborrheic dermatitis 2 to 4 weeks.

For seborrheic dermatitis, your doctor will usually recommend maintenance treatment, which involves applying Nizoral cream once or twice a week.

Action

Ketoconazole is active against dermatophytes of the genera: Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microsporum and yeasts of the genera Candida and Malassezia (Pityrosporum).

Indications

Local treatment of ringworm of the trunk, groin, hands, and feet caused by the following dermatophytes: Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis, Epidermophyton floccosum , as well as skin candidiasis and pityriasis versicolor . Nizoral cream is also recommended for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis associated with the presence of the yeast Malassezia ovale (Pityrosporum ovale).

Contraindications

Do not use Nizoral cream if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ketoconazole or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Nizoral cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

During treatment with Nizoral cream, the following side effects may occur:

Common (in more than 1 in 100 and in less than 1 in 10 patients) redness and itching at the application site and a burning sensation of the skin;

Uncommonly (in more than 1 in 1000 and less than 1 in 100 patients) bleeding, discomfort and dryness, inflammation, irritation, paraesthesia (unpleasant sensations, most often tingling, numbness or changes in skin temperature, i.e. feeling of extreme heat or cold), application site reactions, hypersensitivity, vesicular lesions, contact dermatitis, rash, peeling and sticky skin may occur at the application site.

After the introduction of Nizoral cream to the market, hives have been reported very rarely (in less than 1 in 10,000 patients).

Warnings and precautions

Nizoral cream contains excipients, including propylene glycol and cetyl alcohol. Due to the propylene glycol content, this medicine may cause skin irritation. Due to the stearyl and cetyl alcohol content, this medicine may cause a local skin reaction (e.g., contact dermatitis).

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Store at a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Nizoral cream should only be used if recommended by a doctor, as there is no data on the safety of using the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
