Due to its unique formula, OPTIVE eye drops offer simultaneous lubrication and osmoprotection for long-lasting relief from the symptoms of dry eye. This dual mechanism of action allows OPTIVE not only to lubricate the ocular surface but also to help restore its health. The active ingredients in OPTIVE are sodium carboxymethylcellulose (also known as sodium carmellose, a wetting agent that stabilizes the tear film) and glycerin (a non-caking, long-acting moisturizer). OPTIVE also contains the compatible solutes erythritol and L-carnitine, which protect corneal epithelial cells from damage, restore osmotic balance, and normalize cell function.OPTIVE eye drops are available in convenient reusable bottles with the compatible preservative PURITE®, which is converted into the natural tear components by light, meaning it is preservative-free in the eye.
