Product characteristics
The MiniMed Silhouette infusion set is easy to attach and detach. Like all infusion sets, tubing, and reservoirs, this model utilizes special MiniMed connections to ensure proper connection and reliable use.
How to use a medical device
- Wash your hands using soap and warm water.
- Clean the insertion site with a disinfectant. Wait for the skin to dry.
- Remove the protective paper from the tubing. Place the tubing connector on the top of the freshly filled reservoir. Turn the connector clockwise until it locks. For a Luer-lock connector, turn the tubing connector until it is securely seated.
- Fill the tubing with insulin according to the instructions in your pump user guide.
- Remove the paper backing from the adhesive tape.
- Remove the needle cap by gently twisting and pulling it straight out. Make sure the soft cannula does not extend beyond the introducer needle.
- Squeeze the skin and insert the assembly at a 90° angle.
- Gently massage the adhesive tape onto the skin surface.
- Grasp the connection socket with two fingers and gently remove the introducer needle by pulling it straight out.
- Close the needle guard by pressing the handle until it clicks, without touching it.
Contraindications and precautions
Do not use for intravenous infusions.
The kit is not intended for the infusion of blood and blood-like products.
Do not use the infusion set if the package has been opened or damaged. Open or damaged packages may be contaminated. This could cause infection. (For Medtronic pumps, do not use the infusion set if the tubing connector needle is damaged.)
The first connection of the set should take place in the presence of qualified medical personnel.
Notes and precautions
Before use, please read the instructions for use or the label.
If in doubt, consult your doctor.
Store at room temperature. Protect from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
Comments
If insulin or any other liquid gets into the infusion set connector, it can temporarily block the vents that ensure proper priming of the infusion set. This can lead to under- or over-delivering of insulin and cause hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. In this case, you should use a new reservoir and infusion set.
