ACTIVE SUBSTANCES
Each 250 mg and 500 mg tablet contains, respectively: fenbendazole 250 mg; fenbendazole 500 mg.

EXCIPIENTS
Lactose monohydrate, maize starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Dogs :

Treatment of the following gastrointestinal infections caused by nematodes and cestodes: roundworms (*Toxocara canis*, *Toxascaris leonina*), adult stages; hookworms (*Ancylostoma caninum*, *Uncinaria stenocephala*), adult stages; whipworms (*Trichuris vulpis*), adult stages; tapeworms (*Taenia pisiformis*), adult stages. Prevention and control of *Giardia* infections.

Cats:

Treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by nematodes and cestodes: roundworms (*Toxocara cati*), adult stages; hookworms (*Ancylostoma tubaeforme*), immature and adult stages; tapeworms (*Taenia hydatigena*), adult stages.

It is recommended to repeat the treatment for roundworms and tapeworms, taking into account the development cycle of the parasite, from the larval to the adult stage.

CONTRAINDICATIONS/ADVERSE REACTIONS
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.

DOSAGE
Oral administration.
The dosage for dogs and cats is 50 mg fenbendazole/kg body weight/day. Panacur 250 mg tablets:
½ tablet (= 125 mg fenbendazole) per 2.5 kg body weight.
1 tablet (= 250 mg fenbendazole) per 5 kg body weight. Panacur Forte 500 mg tablets:
½ tablet (= 250 mg fenbendazole) per 5 kg body weight.
1 tablet (= 500 mg fenbendazole) per 10 kg body weight.

The treatment should be repeated for 3 consecutive days.

Dogs :

Crush the tablets and mix them with food. They can also be dissolved in a small amount of water and mixed with food.

Cats :

Dissolve the tablets in a small amount of water and mix them with food.

It is recommended to take the tablets mixed with the first meal of the day to ensure complete absorption.
It is not recommended to administer the tablets whole or dissolved in water to animals that have not eaten (on an empty stomach), to avoid a possible reduction in efficacy.
Avoid concomitant administration with milk.

An insufficient dose may lead to a lack of efficacy and may promote the development of resistance.
To ensure correct dosage, determine body weight as accurately as possible.

This veterinary medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
Panacur Forte 500 mg tablets:

Do not store above 25°C.

Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 3 years.

Cautions

The tablets have a neutral taste.
For both species – and to achieve effective control of gastrointestinal nematodes, cestodes and giardiasis in dogs – treatment should be based on the results of parasitological examinations of faeces. Unnecessary use of antiparasitics or use contrary to the instructions in this Summary of Product Characteristics may increase the selection pressure for resistance and reduce efficacy.
The decision to use the veterinary medicinal product should be based on confirmation of the parasite species and the degree of infestation or risk of infestation, depending on the epidemiological characteristics of each animal.
The following should be avoided:

Excessive and repeated use of anthelmintics from the same class over long periods.
Underdosing, due to incorrect weight estimation, improper administration or non-calibration of the dosing device. It is recommended to verify the success of the treatment (e.g. by clinical assessment and faecal egg count).

Suspected cases of resistance should be investigated using appropriate methods (e.g. faecal egg count reduction test – FECRT).

If resistance is confirmed, an anthelmintic from a different pharmacological class with a different mechanism of action should be used.

Special precautions for target species:
Other animals in the same household may be a source of reinfestation and should be treated if necessary.

Precautions for the person administering the product:

Wash your hands after use.
Do not eat, drink or smoke during administration.
It may be toxic if accidentally ingested.
May cause hypersensitivity reactions.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and mucous membranes.
Wear protective gloves.
In case of contact, rinse with plenty of water.
Remove contaminated clothing.
