Diather Glucose powder – a preparation intended for performing an oral glucose tolerance test

This product is intended for use in the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT; formerly known as the sugar curve). It can also be used in cases of carbohydrate deficiency, exhaustion, and hypoglycemia in patients with diagnosed diabetes. The product is suitable for people of all ages.

The test is performed on individuals suspected of having type 2 diabetes. Patients should be fasting (at least 8 hours after their last meal). The test begins with a venous blood sample to measure fasting glucose levels. Then, within 3-5 minutes, the patient drinks 75g of glucose dissolved in 200-300ml of water. After 60 minutes (three-point test) and 120 minutes (two-point test), another venous blood sample is drawn to measure blood glucose levels. The two-hour period between drinking the glucose solution and blood sampling should be spent resting.

The product is also intended for use in states of carbohydrate deficiency, exhaustion, and hypoglycemia in patients with diagnosed diabetes. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, take 10-20g of glucose. This will cause blood glucose levels to rise after approximately 10-20 minutes. To avoid a recurrence of hypoglycemia, consume complex carbohydrates and re-check blood glucose levels after 60 minutes. In patients treated with intensive insulin therapy, using insulin analogues, or using a personal insulin pump, in the event of hypoglycemia, take 15g of glucose orally and check blood glucose levels after 15 minutes. If blood glucose levels remain low, repeat the glucose test and check blood glucose levels after another 15 minutes (15/15 rule). Note: ¼ sachet contains approximately 17g of glucose.
