ACTION AND MECHANISM

L-cystine, in the form of cysteine, is a fundamental molecule in the structure of keratin, a protein abundant in skin, hair, and nails. The sulfur supplied by L-cystine, through its S-silicon bridges, plays a clear role in keratin quality. L-cystine deficiency can lead to hair loss and deterioration, as well as a loss of strength and elasticity in nails.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.
- Patients with [CYSTINOSIS].

PREGNANCY

There are no adequate studies in pregnant women. Mother-to-child transfer is known to occur. It is advised not to administer this medication during pregnancy.

INDICATIONS

- Treatment of cystine deficiency (a constituent of keratin), which could manifest as [ALOPECIA] and/or brittle nails [ONYCHODYSTROPHY], caused by unbalanced or restrictive diets (weight loss, vegetarian, etc.), in adults and adolescents over 14 years of age.

LACTATION

It is unknown whether L-cystine is excreted in breast milk. As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of cystine in breastfeeding women.

GUIDELINES FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION

- Oral administration. Take with meals and plenty of water.

POSOLOGY

- Adults and children over 14 years of age, oral route: 1000-1500 mg/day, divided between the 3 main meals.
- Children under 14 years of age: Safety and efficacy have not been established.

If symptoms worsen or persist after 15-30 days of treatment, the clinical situation should be reassessed.

PRECAUTIONS

- [CYSTINURIA]: Caution is required in case of disorders in the absorption or elimination of cystine (e.g., cystinuria).

PRECAUTIONS RELATING TO EXCIPIENTS

This medicine contains sucrose. Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency should not take this medicine.
