The Otovent ^® ear canal pressure equalization set is a medical device designed to eliminate negative pressure in the ear. It consists of a balloon and a nose tip through which it is inflated.

What is low ear pressure?

Negative pressure (vacuum) in the ear can be caused by improper functioning of the Eustachian tube after an upper respiratory tract infection, acute otitis media, or it can be caused by air travel, diving or staying in a hyperbaric chamber.

Low pressure in the middle ear is manifested by a blocked ear, hearing problems, pain, discomfort in the ear, dizziness or a feeling of heaviness.

If left untreated, negative pressure in the middle ear can lead to inflammation of the middle ear with effusion (otitis media with effusion). Opening the Eustachian tube using the Otovent ^® set causes ventilation of the middle ear. This facilitates the removal of the effusion and relieves symptoms related to low pressure in the middle ear.

How does the Otovent ^® set work?

The Otovent ^® kit helps to equalize the pressure in the middle ear by opening the Eustachian (auditory) tube. This is done by inflating a balloon through the nose.
