PHYSIOGEL Calming Relief Face Cream: Care for sensitive skin
Sensitive skin is often associated with atopic diseases, such as hay fever or food allergies. However, other irritants also frequently cause skin irritations like itching, redness, and dryness in people with an atopic predisposition as soon as the skin comes into contact with the corresponding allergens.
The cause is a disrupted skin lipid barrier . Skin-compatible lipids, such as those found in PHYSIOGEL® Calming Relief face cream, can help strengthen this barrier, soothing the skin and making it more resilient.
Atopic diseases, which are often associated with a disruption of the skin lipid barrier, include atopic dermatitis (eczema), hay fever, asthma, and food allergies. In these conditions, the skin barrier is usually weakened, leading to dryness, itching, and inflammation.
The skin is our first line of defense against environmental irritants and allergens . A compromised skin barrier is particularly problematic on parts of the body that are constantly in direct contact with the environment, such as the hands and face. Here, the skin is constantly exposed to potential irritants. When the skin barrier is compromised, these allergens can penetrate more easily and trigger an immune response. Skin irritation, itching, redness, and dryness are the result.
At the same time, the skin loses too much moisture to the air due to the disrupted barrier, while also having trouble absorbing new moisture. This makes the skin cracked and even more permeable to allergens. Constant scratching due to itching also contributes to this problem.
Daily care for sensitive facial skin
The goal of daily moisturizing with creams is to supply the skin with biomimetic lipids, which strengthen the damaged skin barrier. This allows it to defend against allergens again and simultaneously retain moisture more effectively. However, such a cream must also be completely free of potential irritants such as fragrances, colorants, and preservatives, which could trigger allergic reactions and thus worsen irritations.
PHYSIOGEL® Calming Relief face cream contains precisely these skin-related lipids and at the same time avoids potential allergens such as colorants, fragrances and preservatives.
Causes: These risk factors irritate the skin
Sensitive skin reacts more strongly when the skin barrier is weakened, which makes it easier for foreign substances to penetrate. This is the main cause of sensitivity. Various external and internal factors can trigger reactions or rashes.
Triggers include:
- Skincare and cosmetic products : Fragrances and dyes, alcohols, and anti-aging ingredients such as retinol can cause reactions. Components of decorative cosmetics, such as glitter particles in eyeshadow, can also be problematic.
- Food : Some foods can cause irritation and allergic skin reactions. People often react to nuts and citrus fruits.
- Chemicals : Contact with cleaning and disinfecting agents can irritate the skin. Common ingredients include parabens, alcohol, farnesol, limonene, formaldehyde, and benzisothiazolinone. Not all of these are found in cosmetics; some are also used to preserve food or in cleaning products.
- Hygiene practices : Overly intensive personal hygiene, such as frequent showering with conventional soaps and shower gels, can irritate the skin and damage its natural protective barrier. Conversely, insufficient hygiene, such as not removing makeup before bed, can also lead to problems. Therefore, if you have sensitive skin, ensure that your cleansers are pH-neutral and contain no allergenic ingredients.
- Environmental factors : Severe air pollution and high levels of particulate matter can irritate the skin, as can humid air, UV radiation and pollen.
- Lifestyle and hormones : A stressful lifestyle and hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy, can also lead to skin reactions.
