Krill oil is extracted from Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba), a shrimp-like crustacean native to the Southern Ocean, where it occurs in large swarms. Krill oil contains the valuable unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are bound in a natural phospholipid complex that is particularly well absorbed by the human body. As essential nutrients, omega-3 fatty acids cannot be produced by the human body itself, which is why they should be regularly consumed through the diet. In addition, krill oil contains the carotenoid astaxanthin, which gives it its natural red color, and other valuable nutrients, such as choline, a vitamin-like substance (vitamin B4) involved in many important metabolic processes in the body. Each krill oil softgel capsule contains 500 mg of pure krill oil with 125 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, including 60 mg EPA and 27.5 mg DHA.
