The Guarani Indians have used Stevia rebaudiana for centuries, both as a medicinal plant and as a sugar substitute. This perennial shrub from the border region of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina is full of sweet steviol glycosides, which are found primarily in the leaves. These natural sweeteners are now also available in Europe.

Stevia has numerous positive properties: It does not affect blood sugar and is therefore suitable for people with diabetes. Its sweetness provides no additional calories and contains no artificial sweeteners. Furthermore, it is not harmful to teeth and is lactose-free.
