Eye drops for the treatment of corneal edema

ODM 5 is an eye drop product from Horus Pharma.
Corneal edema is the accumulation of excess fluid in the cornea. This increases the thickness of the cornea, leading to swelling and clouding. The causes of corneal edema can be varied. A common cause is a condition called corneal dystrophy—a disease in which corneal cells are destroyed, resulting in chronic corneal edema. Injuries or surgical procedures, such as cataract surgery, that damage the cornea can also lead to corneal edema. Affected individuals often experience symptoms such as blurred vision in the morning, light sensitivity, halos around light sources, loss of visual acuity, watery eyes, and pain. One treatment option is the use of hyperosmolar eye drops, such as ODM 5, which draw excess fluid from the cornea through a purely osmotic effect, temporarily restoring normal corneal hydration and improving visual acuity.
ODM 5 is the first preservative-free product for treating corneal edema and is available in a dropper bottle. It also contains 0.15% hyaluronic acid, which helps protect irritated corneas and promote wound healing.

ODM 5 – Removes excess fluid from the cornea in cases of corneal edema with 5% NaCl

Instructions for use:
Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Twist off the cap, tilt your head back, and hold the dropper tip over the eye to be treated. Gently pull down the lower eyelid with the index finger of one hand. As recommended by your doctor, instill 1-2 drops into the lower conjunctival sac 4 times a day. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or your fingers. Keep your eye closed for 1-2 minutes afterward. Any remaining drops on the dropper tip can be quickly shaken off. Replace the protective cap on the bottle after each use. Remove contact lenses before treatment, as ODM 5 is not compatible with them. ODM 5 does not need to be rinsed after use.

The storage temperature should be 2 - 25 °C.

Warnings: Do not swallow. Do not use if the bottle is damaged. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the bottle. Use within 3 months of opening. If your ophthalmologist has prescribed other eye drops, wait at least 15 minutes between using the two products. Keep out of the reach and sight of small children.
