Recurring bloating can significantly disrupt daily life and be very distressing for those affected. Lefaxan® protect can help in these situations. This medication is intended for individuals with functional abdominal bloating and distension (FABD) as well as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

Abdominal bloating is often accompanied by a feeling of a gas-filled stomach or a balloon-like sensation, without any actual increase in abdominal girth. The resulting feeling of pressure or fullness can be extremely uncomfortable and distressing.

In abdominal distension, the abdomen visibly bulges outwards due to trapped air, which can cause discomfort. Bloating and distension can occur individually or together. If no organic cause is found and the symptoms cannot be attributed to any other condition, this suggests FABD (fatty abdominal distension).

Among the many causes of abdominal bloating and distension is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). The excessive number of bacteria in the small intestine produces more gas and causes the associated discomfort.

Lefaxan® protect helps with symptoms such as bloating, fullness, and abdominal pain associated with FABD – especially when bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine is the cause of the gas-related symptoms. It forms a protective film on the intestinal wall, thus strengthening the natural intestinal barrier and making it more resistant to the excessive adhesion of gas-producing bacteria that cause the unpleasant symptoms.

Lefaxan® protect capsules contain xyloglucan and pea protein. The film-forming polysaccharide xyloglucan creates a protective film on the intestinal mucosa. This strengthens the intestinal barrier and prevents gas-producing bacteria from adhering. The pea protein enhances this effect. The mechanism of action of Lefaxan® protect is therefore based on a physical barrier effect, which can alleviate gas-related discomfort.

The purely plant-based ingredients are very well tolerated and effective. Lefaxan® protect capsules should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water, before each main meal. Depending on the type and duration of symptoms, the recommended dosage is 3 capsules per day for 5 to 10 days. As part of maintenance therapy, you can also take this dosage for a longer period after consulting your doctor.
