Maternal consumption of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contributes to the proper development of the brain and eyes of the fetus and breastfed infant. Folate plays an important role at the end of pregnancy, as it contributes to the growth of maternal tissues. At the same time, folates, combined with vitamins C and D, support the maintenance of a good functioning of the immune system, and together with iron, contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, which can be particularly important in the final stage of pregnancy. Folate and vitamin B12 are also involved in the process of cell division. The addition of selenium supports the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. Iron helps in the proper production of red blood cells and hemoglobin and in the proper transport of oxygen in the body.
