Innofer oral suspension, 100 ml, Chiesi

Innofer is a food for special medical purposes in the form of a suspension containing elemental iron.

The product is used under medical supervision and is intended for the dietary management of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

It is suitable for infants, including those with low birth weight, children, and adults.

It can be used by pregnant women.

The elemental iron contained in the formulation is characterized by both a very high iron content exceeding 98% and a high bioavailability of 69%. It is better tolerated than iron salts, so it does not cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation.

A dosing syringe is included in the package, allowing for easy measurement of the appropriate dose. 0.1 ml of the suspension contains 2 mg of iron, while 5 ml of the product contains 100 mg of iron. 

Indications:

• Infants, including those with low birth weight, and children
• Adults, including pregnant women.

Ingredients:

Carrier - fatty acids (medium-chain triglycerides MCT), elemental iron, natural lemon flavor.

100 ml of product contains:

• energy 3346 kJ/793 kcal
• fat 95.5 mg (including: saturated fatty acids 95.5 g, monounsaturated fatty acids <0.1 g, polyunsaturated fatty acids 0 g), carbohydrates 0 g (including sugars 0 g), protein 0 g, salt <0.01 g
• iron 2000 mg.

1 ml of product contains:

• energy value 33.5 kJ/7.9 kcal
• fat 0.96 mg (including: saturated fatty acids 0.96 g, monounsaturated fatty acids <0.1 g, polyunsaturated fatty acids 0 g), carbohydrates 0 g (including sugars 0 g), protein 0 g, salt <0.01 g
• iron 20 mg.

How to use:

• The dosage and duration of use depend on the degree of iron deficiency and must be administered as directed and supervised by a physician
• Before use, the suspension should be thoroughly mixed by shaking the bottle vigorously until a homogeneous consistency is achieved, but for no less than half a minute
• Stability studies of the suspension have shown that after the recommended 30-second mixing time, the suspension is ready for administration (homogeneous) and remains so for at least 3 minutes. If the appropriate dose is not taken within 3 minutes of mixing, the product should be mixed thoroughly again
• It is used under medical supervision and according to the physician's recommendations, depending on individual needs.

Prevention of iron deficiency

• Infants, including those with low birth weight, and children: 1-2 mg of iron/kg of body weight daily
• Adults, including women over 8 weeks of pregnancy: 30 mg of iron (1.5 ml of Innofer suspension) daily.

Treatment of iron deficiency and anemia

• Infants, including those with low birth weight, and children: 4-6 mg of iron/kg of body weight daily, in 2-3 doses
• Adults, including pregnant women over 8 weeks of gestation: 60-120 mg of iron (3-6 ml of Innofer suspension) daily, divided into 2-3 doses.

Contraindications:

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any of the product ingredients.

Warnings: 

• This product should be used under medical supervision
• It is not suitable for use as the sole source of nutrition
• It is not intended for parenteral use
• This product may pose a health risk if taken by individuals for whom its use has not been medically indicated
• It is suitable for consumption for 90 days after first opening
• Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C, out of reach of small children
• Protect from heat, sunlight, and moisture.

Contains no sweeteners, preservatives, or colorings

Does not contain cow's milk protein, lactose, or gluten and is suitable for individuals hypersensitive to these ingredients.

Has a positive opinion from the Institute of Mother and Child.

Has a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) safety certificate.
