Hevert® Charcoal binds toxins and bacterial breakdown products in cases of intestinal infections with diarrhea, such as food poisoning or traveler's diarrhea, thus reducing intestinal irritation. The medicinal charcoal in Hevert® Charcoal is well-suited for cleansing the intestines of harmful substances such as heavy metals, for example, amalgam, environmental chemicals, or drug residues. Due to its rapid breakdown into minute charcoal particles, Hevert® Charcoal achieves a high binding capacity for foreign substances and harmful materials.

How does diarrhea develop?

Diarrhea, medically known as diarrhea, is defined as having more than three loose bowel movements per day. The causes of diarrhea are varied, and it often represents a protective reaction of the body. Traveler's diarrhea, for example, is primarily caused by bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Viruses like norovirus can also cause severe vomiting and diarrhea. Food poisoning is often caused by food contaminated with salmonella. Diarrhea can also result from the excessive intake of laxatives or medications with corresponding side effects, such as antibiotics. Chronic diarrhea that lasts longer than two weeks or recurs frequently should always be examined by a doctor. The cause could be, for example, inflammation of the intestines. Finally, psychological factors such as anxiety, excitement, or severe tension can also lead to temporary diarrhea.

The medicinal charcoal in Kohle Hevert® is a natural active ingredient derived from renewable plant-based raw materials. To disperse the charcoal into the finest particles in the intestines, a large amount of liquid must be consumed with it. The following measures and tips can also help: In all cases of diarrhea, it is particularly important to replace the resulting loss of water and minerals. Drink at least two liters of fluids daily (tea, mineral water), and it is recommended to add one teaspoon of salt per liter. In more severe cases, an electrolyte powder from the pharmacy should be used, which already contains the salts the body needs in the correct mixture. Highly sugary soft drinks should be avoided, as the high sugar content further irritates the intestines due to its water-attracting effect.

To prevent food poisoning while traveling, the most important hygiene rules should be consistently followed, as the immune system is not as effective at fighting off foreign pathogens as it is at defending against familiar pathogens at home. Possible sources of infection include undercooked food, unpeeled fruit, seafood, or tap water.
