The aerial part of the plant Ocimum basilicum, fam. Lamiaceae, which contains volatile oil, tannin, caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid.
Effect:
Antispasmodic, antiseptic, stomachic (stimulates the secretion of gastrointestinal juices), carminative (helps eliminate intestinal gas), antiemetic (removes nausea), anti-inflammatory, emollient, galactagogue (stimulates milk secretion), diuretic, comforting, tonic.
Main uses:
Bloating, colic, spastic and fermentation colitis, gastritis.
Other uses:
Loss of appetite (lack of appetite), colds, bronchitis, cystitis, asthenia, breastfeeding.
